Recipe: Hash Browns (Oil Free)

Making hash browns is one of my favourite ways to prepare potatoes! Grated potatoes, and a few spices are all you need to make this super simple oil free hash browns recipe. Grilling them using the Cuisinart Griddler (Amazon Affiliate Link) or bake them in the oven. Serve with refried beans, tofu scramble, or buffalo tempeh. Enjoy hash browns alongside your favourite veggies too!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded potatoes (I usually grate the potatoes with a box grater, but you could also shred them in a food processor)
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • black pepper (optional)

Directions – Cuisinart Griddler

  1. Set Griddler to “Grill. Panini” setting.
  2. Set temperature setting on the line between “High” and “Sear”
  3. After shredding potatoes, squeeze out excess moisture with a towel or paper towels.
  4. Add all ingredients to a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Spread potato mixture in an even layer.
  6. Grill 20 minutes.

Directions – Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Cover baking sheet with silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
  2. After shredding potatoes, squeeze out excess moisture with a towel or paper towels.
  3. Add all ingredients to a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Spread potato mixture in an even layer on the covered baking sheet. The thinner the layer, the crispier they will turn out. The mix can also be formed into patties if you prefer.
  5. Bake 20 minutes.
  6. Flip and bake another 10 minutes or so.
