Mary’s Mini Challenge – Announcement, Invitation, and Grocery Haul

I will be doing the Mary’s Mini Challenge and you are cordially invited to join in on the fun! Dr. John McDougall and his wife Mary McDougall created the Mary’s Mini Diet to simplify the transition to a plant-based diet, boost weight loss, and/or reset taste buds. The Mary’s Mini McDougall Diet (also referred to as Mary’s Mini Challenge or simply Mary’s Mini) is a simplified version of the Starch Solution program. GROCERY HAUL

I thought it would be helpful to share my Mary’s Mini Grocery Haul. I also included some staples and other items I already had on hand, including pantry and freezer items, as well as spices and seasonings! It’s a lot of food! I’ll be preparing my Mary’s Mini Challenge meals for myself, but will also be preparing meals my husband and my son. (They will eat other items such as beans, whole grains, and tofu/tempeh while I do the challenge).

Grocery List

FRESH PRODUCE

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Eggplant
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Zucchini
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Peppers x4
  • Bananas or apples (optional)

FROZEN

  • Riced Cauliflower x2
  • Broccoli x2

  • Fruit (optional)

PANTRY / SPICES

  • POTATOES (10 lb bag)
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Tomato paste
  • Salsa

SPICES & CONDIMENTS

  • Garlic powder
  • Italian seasoning
  • Chili powder
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Curry powder
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning

My Plans

I plan on making spinach mashed potatoes, crispy hash browns, potato chips, fries, and roasted veggies during the challenge. I will make some super simple meals using steamed potatoes and non-starchy vegetables topped with BBQ sauce and other condiments and dressings to jazz it up. I also plan to experiment with new recipes and tweak some of my old recipes to comply with the Mary’s Mini guidelines.   1. I did do the Mary Mini in the spring. It really does reset the taste buds. I lost over 5 pounds. I did it for 14 days. I am not a big fan of potatoes so I was glad to go back to plant based eating . I do a combo of the Mcdougall plan & Eat 2 Live. Not 100% vegan, but close.

  2. I did the Mary’s Mini earlier this year. It is a great way to clear up eating habits. I did it for 2 weeks. I lost just over 7 pounds and reset my taste buds. I think it is something I would like to do several times a year.

  3. I have done a Mary’s Mini in the past. I did it for about 2 weeks. It does reset the taste buds. I did feel better but I did miss my morning oatmeal & fruit. I may do another one soon
